Lion conflict mitigation
Building on the success of our hackathon participation in 2022, we're working together with KWT and local communities to deploy Helium Gateways and protect lions in the Maasai Mara.
The Lion Conflict Mitigation project is an extension of our 2022 hackathon-winning proposal. In collaboration with Kenya Wildlife Trust (KWT) and the communities of the Maasai Mara and bordering conservancies, we are taking action to minimize human-lion conflicts.
Our strategy involves deploying Helium Gateways in partnership with local hotels and lodges to establish comprehensive coverage. With government approval, 20 lions will be monitored and protected using this system. As part of the project, BLCK will also provide backend infrastructure to collect and manage the data.
By implementing these measures, we hope to create a safer environment for both the lion population and the communities surrounding their habitats.
